apple box [blackened brass]

The blackened brass apple box [series 3] pays homage to the beauty and grace of distressed metal-- Its surface has been organically pummelled to form shallow ridges and indentations. These purposeful irregularities introduce a new type of materiality to any room or outdoor environment.

Abd's apple box series is inspired by the wooden crates typically used on film sets to prop up dolly tracks or as impromptu seating. For years, Ashley has admired their rugged versatility and has used them in her own home as pieces of furniture.
